Here,i can boastfully claim that only two guys in my class got first question on the bull`s eye. Moreover,as i grew inches ,i realised that i could still defend myself over that first question blunder as there i was only being sarcastic and metaphorical.

Hockey,in India ,is that kind of a sport which only seems to host World cups and champion trophies.Or the media skies over their stadiums for Dhoni`s comments on excessive cricket or breaking news. So,it turns out that i am an avid follower of hockey who makes sure to tune in once every 2 years or so.This makes me a citizen diligent enough, the one who takes seeming pride whenever hockey is on the tube.Still,i may have to face dejection as sometimes our MEN IN BLUE (no, not those in Pepsi Commercials) but their step-brothers don't take the hassles of qualifying for the more prestigious events to save some screen time. What better alternative it leaves us aware denizens than to tune into India v. XYZ cricket,Ban. v. Zim.,or just watch Sachin make 200 for the 4th time (oops, repeated coverage again)

Now,let me cover some serious grounds here.Hockey's popularity ,or the lack of it can be directly attributed to the team's performance only, cause they ain't no celebrities with an array of commercials behind them.India was the one who laid the ground-rules in hockey and there were times when they ruled the roost supremely grabbing all the glory on offer in the form of WC and olympics. That's what granted hockey the the nation's game title.

Every run of form had to have a halt somewhere and when hockey reached that phase, the times saw a steady rise in cricket`s fame in early eighties.Since then, hockey was put on back of the burner.

The cold shoulder shown by the audience is nothing as compared to the step-motherly treatment induced by the authorities and sports departments in charge. You are paying hefty sums for a domestic tourney to cricketers(read IPL) and granting 10000 for a match won in a world cup and still less if you lose.

There goes another kids motives to ever go ahead grabbing a hockey stick!!

And then there is a monster, called media.Media was always meant to highlight the truth whereas here the media did just absolutely nothing to highlight the deterioration of indian hockey. They are engaged in giving you the precise reasons as to why the ball(cricket) took an uncanny bounce that got the master blaster out and the likes and in between under the label of "OTHER SPORTS" will give you the glimpses of the hockey matches around.Still,it's hard to blame the media majorly because it will always head to places where the lights are on bright whereas the hockey situation looks real grim.

"PHIR DIL DO HOCKEY KO,HERO HONDA DHAK DHAK GO"

Sehwag said it some time ago ,so i had to lent it some heart.I went through arduously , the recently included World Cup to see India languish at 8.Though this team showed some fight in them,in the end the gap showed a little too much, thanks to the sub-standard techniques and facilities prevailing here.

Rueing the fact i wasted my time,i am gleefully tuning into IPL manoranjan ka baap.

If they really want us to get behind hockey big time, first they need to put the big step on the pedal and show us some reasons to cheer for you.Get a solid build and reframe the structure to actually get the results going.

We,as the audiences are a fickle minded lot.We will continue to relish movies like Chak De India, sponsers like Hero Honda will continue making fortune by selling hockey-senti roping in big stars and we will continue cheering everything that's not hockey.
